I made some promotional stereoscopic images for PSS (it’s almost finished!). There are 10 to collect, here’s the first 3:

There’s also a few unseen images from the new parts up on flickr. And in case you missed that link, here it is again.

So I’ve been spending a long time on the new episodes of my cartoon Please Say Something.

I’ve had to take down episodes 6-15 in order to make the whole piece viable for certain film festivals. Thank you for all the support on the vimeo pages… I hope to have them back up with the new parts soon enough.

Here are some random production images:

The new, final episodes should be interesting. As I’ve said in talks before, I honestly feel this is the only thing I’ve done which I consider any good. The only thing which aligns with my current feelings about storytelling and aesthetics. In other words, if it doesn’t do well, don’t be surprised if I move to a country which allows assisted suicide.

Here’s some of the latest amazing octocat fan art, this time mostly by the folks at deviantart.

Also an image of the octocat mug I designed, which you can order from cafepress. Its not too bad!  The aliasing seems to get a little blurred in the production process, but if you move it around really fast you barely notice it.

I’ve uploaded the latest installment of the animated pill-sized hyper-narrative Please Say Something.
The entire series has now migrated to Vimeo, which serves full HD versions of every episode. Enjoy!

There is also now an official Youtube channel which I’ll use for random clips that don’t fit the Vimeo page.

After recieving a bunch more Octocat fan art I created this dedicated page : http://www.davidoreilly.com/octocat-art

I’m in the great city of New York this week for the all-singing all-dancing conference of Pictoplasma.

For those attending, I’ll be premiering about 8 minutes of new work, including new episodes of PSS and a completely unseen 6 minute film. I’m looking forward to showing it all.

The new work will be online Monday 8th September, so check back then if you can’t make it (cheapskate).

Ive just finished coding an application for the iphone/ipod touch. It gives the illusion of a 3d hologram jumping off the screen.

Here’s a video of it in use, featuring the Cat from my award-winning but unfinished cartoon PSS:

The application works by assuming a constant viewing angle (35-45 degrees), typical for when the device is placed on a tabletop. The 3d scene’s perspective is warped using anamorphosis, the same technique used in Hans Holbein’s painting The Ambassadors. This application does the exact same but updates dynamically.

The software uses the ipod’s built-in gyroscope to calculate rotation on the y-axis, so we can look around the environment around by turning the device, there are also controls for manual rotation with a slider on the left hand side of the screen.

My programming knowledge is limited, if any iphone developers want to collaborate on this stuff please get in touch!
