I’ve just added the Limited edition Please Say Something DVD’s to the shop!

Please Say Something DVDs on sale now!

The DVD is an edition of 100 and includes a commentary track by Pictoplasma founders Peter & Lars, in which they analyze the design and storytelling. I also included a lot of extra images I captured just for the DVD, showing the process of developing it and what the sets looked like. I’m usually against an explicit “making of”, they usually destroy a film for me (and seem a bit presumptuous for shorts!) but the extra features should enrich it and be mainly of interest to others making films in 3d. I’ve included some other short films and a bunch of extras.

The price is 20 EUR including delivery and (while stocks last) some little cards from the film and my work. Order yours now!

Why sell a dvd of something that’s online? It’s naturally my goal to make my work free and available for everyone. I only decided to make these for sale after several people requested to donate to me after seeing the film. I personally feel weird having a donate button on the site, so instead you can contribute to the cause but have a rare souvenir to take with you!

March 23 2009

Just on the other end of the ever-exhausting and wonderful Pictoplasma Conference. Thank you to everyone who came and who made it to my talk, and as always my thanks to Peter, Lars, Anna, Moritz, Danielle, Alex and everyone else for making it happen and making it seem so easy. If Pictoplasma had a competition the awards should all go to them.

Here is the cover I did for the festival program

Festival Program

… and the video of my opener for the festival on the subway, I just caught the tail end of it…

FLATPACK FESTIVAL

I also just had a great weekend at the Flatpack festival in Birmingham. For such a new festival it has such brilliant enthusiasm and variety. It was the first time I got to present some of the new theory I’ve been writing and got to meet the wonderful Jim Le Fevre and his zoetropes, it’s amazing how appealing it is to see animation happen before your eyes. Thank you Ian & Pip!

PSS DVDs

Thank you to everyone who bought the now-completed PSS dvds at Pictoplasma! I’m making them all here on my noisy printer so there will be a little delay on getting them online to order, but thank you all who emailed requesting them. You can still drop me a line if you want to be one of the first to receive one.

Please Say Something DVDs

PSST! LONDON

I will be at the PSST! Pass it on screening in London next week, hope to see you there! My piece was featured in Boingboing recently but I’ll release it in HD here next week along with all the other ones. Meanwhile you can still buy the beautifully produced DVD here.

DENMARK

I will be in Denmark for 2 talks/workshops next weekend, I’m still figuring out the format of it all. The first will be in Lynfabrikken in Aarhus on Tuesday 31st, the second at Republikken in Copenhagen on the 1st of April. There might be one or two more but nothing else confirmed yet, I will update here if there are changes, I look forward to visiting and meeting you all!

March 09 2009

My friends over at Pictoplasma commissioned me to do the opening animation for their festival next week. It will play before all the cinema screenings and be used for general publicity, including on Berlin’s u-bahn screens for a while. Here it is:

I heard this song years ago and always wanted to use it, this version in particular. Luckily it was a perfect reflection of the themes behind pictoplasma, such as viewer identification and the impulsive psychological reaction to seeing a face. It’s also just a great song. I included character motifs from Fons, Moto, Aki and a bunch of others.

The festival is called Pictopia this year. It will be the biggest one yet, taking over the entire House of World Cultures in west Berlin. I will be doing a short-ish talk there on Friday 20th at 9:00, it will mainly be focused on thoughts about animation rather than my work. The shop will also be selling the special edition Please Say Something DVDs, which I’m putting together now.
